Austerity measures come into force in Montenegro on Tuesday to prevent the rapid spread of infections. Montenegro is considered among the countries with the highest number of infections in Europe.

The Ministry of Health of Montenegro has announced that the Commission for Protection of the population from infection with Covid -19, on the proposal of the Institute of Public Health has decided since Tuesday (01.03) in the cities of Podgorica, Niksic, Cetinje, Ulcinj, Herceg Novi and Pluzhina to enter into force strict measures aimed at preventing the spread of Covid -19 infection.

"Lock down" envisages restrictions and bans on traffic between cities, closure of bars, cafes and restaurants. Otherwise, visits to parks, children's entertainment facilities, sports venues are prohibited. People for work will be required to have a verification issued by their employer, while patients must document their movements with reports issued by a doctor.

The level of Coronavirus infection in Montenegro continues to be very high. It still remains one of the countries with the highest number of infected in Europe per 100 thousand inhabitants. This figure reaches 1370 infected. There are currently 8628 infected people active. The number of deaths remains worrying. Last week alone in Montenegro with 620 thousand inhabitants 60 deaths were recorded. Hospitals are close to the limit and health personnel are under constant pressure.

It is expected that the announced measures will continue to aggravate the economy, respectively the main branch of the Montenegrin economy, tourism. The tourism branch has expressed fears that due to the serious epidemiological situation another season may fail, therefore, "insists that the state provide conditions for the tourist season.

Vaccine, the only salvation

So far, 7,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccine have arrived in Montenegro. This is an aid contingent of 2,000 vaccines from Serbia and 5,000 doses from Russia. The Minister of Health of Montenegro, Jelena Boronovi B Bojovi është, told the media that 30 thousand vaccines are expected to arrive from China this week, also this donation, while an agreement has been signed with China for the provision of 150 thousand doses. In Montenegro, currently 1288 people have been vaccinated from the so-called priority groups defined by the National Strategy. Authorities say the dynamics of vaccination will depend on the supply and arrival of vaccine contingents. Vaccination readiness in Montenegro is high. In the questionnaire published by the Government for the identification of those interested in vaccination, so far over 15 thousand citizens have been registered.
