Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and two of his former associates have been sentenced to three years in prison for corruption. Sarkozy was found guilty after trying to bribe a magistrate, Gilbert Azibert, by offering him a prestigious job in Monaco in exchange for information about a criminal investigation into his party. Sarkozy's former lawyer Thierry Herzog and Azibert received the same sentence. Sarkozy could serve his sentence at home, although he is expected to appeal the decision.

Sarkozy is expected to stand trial in another case, which is related to Bygmalion. Sarkozy is accused of fraud in the 2012 presidential campaign. He served as president since 2007, but failed to be re-elected in 2012./KC/dritare.net
