Scientists have warned that doctors are probably losing some of the signs of serious and potentially fatal brain disorders caused by coronavirus, as they appear in patients with mild or cured symptoms. Neurologists in the UK have published details of more than 40 patients with Covid-19 , whose complications ranged from inflammation and disruption of the brain to nerve damage and stroke.
A dozen patients had inflammation of the central nervous system, 10 had d elirium or psychosis , eight strokes and eight others had peripheral nerve problems, mostly diagnosed as Guillain-Barré syndrome, an immune response that attacks the nerves and causes paralysis. It is fatal in 5% of cases, informs dritare.net. This further adds to the fear that coronavirus could have long-term consequences for infected patients. Some have left them with breathing problems and fatigue, even after a long time after they have recovered, while others with numbness, weakness and memory problems.
A 55-year-old patient, who did not suffer from any other type of illness, began behaving strangely the day after he was released from the hospital, where he was hospitalized due to coronavirus. She put on her pants, took them off again, and began to hallucinate, saying she saw monkeys playing in her house. She was re-hospitalized and gradually recovered after taking medication for mental disorders.
Another concern is the fact that the virus can leave a part of the population with delicate brain damage, which becomes more apparent over the years. This may have happened during the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, where about a million people began to have brain problems.
